Drawing is a form of visual art like painting, sculpture, ceramics, video etc., It is widely used as a medium of expression. To draw is defined as “an art of producing an image using a variety of tools and techniques on a two dimensional medium like paper”.
Drawing is one of the most popular and widely practiced art forms because it is easy to begin. Pencil and paper are all that you need to start drawing. But it requires immense skills, creativity, motivation, and inspiration to master this art form. A person who excels in this form of art is referred to as draftsman or draughtsman. Drawing is also one of the oldest forms of human communication which were used before the invention of written language. Its usage dates back to more than 30,000 years to the paleolithic cave and rock paintings created by the Homo habilis. Later, during the medieval era, drawing on paper became a popular and common art form in Europe. Masters of arts like Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Sandro Botticelli and many others were the reason for popularizing drawing as an art form in its own right throughout the world.
In today's world drawing is widely used in illustration, animation, fine art, graphic design, architecture, engineering, fashion design, interior design, industrial design, product design and in many more industries.
Becoming an artist
One of the basic skill required to become an artist is observation. Next, you must experiment your observation in a variety of ways. If you want to be a good draftsman you need to be strong in basic skills of art like understanding of line, length, depth, and color.
Some people have inborn talent and others can gain the talent by proper learning and practice. Passion towards drawing and right training is required to gain knowledge about different techniques used and how the same should be applied in the art. The only lot of practice and perseverance can make an artist excel in any form of art.
